چکیده

This paper presents the formulation, implementation, calibration, and application of a multiscale reduced-order model to simulate titanium panel structure subjected thermomechanical loading associated with high-speed flight. The formulation is based on eigenstrain-based homogenization further considers thermal strain as well temperature-dependent material properties evolution laws. microstructure (i.e., at scale polycrystalline representative volume element) underlying microstructural mechanisms are directly incorporated fully coupled structural analysis, concurrently probing response microscale. proposed approach was calibrated using series uniaxial tension tests Ti-6242S wide range temperatures two different rates. then adopted study generic aircraft skin analysis focuses demonstrating capability predict not only response, but also simultaneously microscale it studies effects temperature texture response.

Strain rate sensitivity of skin tissue under thermomechanical loading.

There have been limited studies addressing the thermally dependent mechanical properties of skin tissue, although this can contribute to a variety of medical applications. To address this, an experimental study on the tensile behaviour of pig skin tissue under different thermal loading conditions and different mechanical stretching rates was performed. The results indicate that there is a signi...

The rate dependent response of a titanium alloy subjected to quasi-static loading in ambient environment

A dual phase Ti-6A1-4V alloy was tested in uniaxial tension over a large quasi-static loading range (10−5–10−1 s−1) in ambient environment. As strain rate increases, strength of the alloy was found to increase at the expense of ductility. In the low strain-rate region, strain rate sensitivity of the material experienced a gradual decrease during plastic deformation. In the high strain-rate regi...

Seven-story Building Subjected to Seismic Loading: Experimentation and Modeling

This article presents a research program on a structure representing a seven-story residential building tested on the shaking table in the NEES [6]. The building was designed using a displacement based capacity approach for a site in Los Angeles resulting design lateral force. The structure is composed of 2 main perpendicular walls connected by slotted connections. The numerical calculations ha...

Self-Sensing of Damage Progression in Unidirectional Multiscale Hierarchical Composites Subjected to Cyclic Tensile Loading

The electrical sensitivity of glass fiber/multiwall carbon nanotube/vinyl ester hierarchical composites containing a tailored electrically-percolated network to self-sense accumulation of structural damage when subjected to cyclic tensile loading-unloading is investigated. The hierarchical composites were designed to contain two architectures differentiated by the location of the multiwall carb...
